Equipment
Design/Qualification
AES
has been performing equipment qualifications for components requiring
special qualifications such as valves, vessels, strainers, and control
panels.
This qualification typically requires seismic qualification to
withstand any external design basis event. This qualification entails
both analysis and testing of equipment for each component
configuration.

- BWR &
PWR Strainers
|
AES has
performed the design and analysis for numerous BWR and PWR ECCS suction
strainers in both domestic and international markets. Our experience
with suction strainers and suction strainer issues includes structural
design, hydrodynamic loads, debris generation, debris transport, head
loss evaluations, vortexing evaluations, containment walkdowns for
debris sources, insulation replacement, downstream effects, and
chemical effects evaluations.
AES has
performed numerous evaluations related to rigging and heavy loads. This
includes evaluations for major equipment transport and rigging (such as
for steam generators), including haul route evaluations for roadways
and underground utilities, design of special lifting devices, platform
evaluations, etc. In addition AES has been involved with heavy loads
evaluations inside the plants including route planning, NUREG 0612
evaluations, qualification of lifting rigs, and evaluation of piping
and other plant structures used for rigging.
AES has performed numerous evaluations of
existing cranes to upgrade the capacity including evaluation of crane
girders, crane support rails, building support structures, combination
of crane loads with seismic loading. This includes crane upgrades to
support heavy equipment replacement, IFFSI, spent fuel storage
containers and other general purpose load rating upgrades.
AES has performed numerous MOV and AOV
evaluations for weak link evaluations, seismic qualifications,
operability evaluations, valve modifications, and other MOV and AOV
related issues. We have evaluated valves from almost all nuclear valve
vendors including Crane-Aloyco, Anchor-Darling, Velan, Copes Vulcan,
Borg & Warner, and Pratt valves.
