General Engineering
AES has capabilities in a wide variety of general engineering disciplines. These capabilities are generally applicable to both the nuclear power industry and non-nuclear markets including the industrial, commercial, and government sectors. Additionalinformation for each of these topics is available by scrolling over the topic title.
  • Civil / Structural Engineering
  • AES has extensive experience in the design and analysis of nuclear plant structures, structural supports, and seismic qualification/verification. We bring over 25 years experience including some staff personnel being members of the original design team for the structural and seismic design of two nuclear facilities. We have several licensed Professional and Structural Engineers in the State of Illinois and many other states. Areas of expertise include steel design, reinforced concrete design, pres-stressed concrete, small building design, seismic analysis, and structural dynamics.
AES brings extensive experience in the layout, analysis, and design of ASME B&PV Code Section III, ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3 for both BWR and PWR piping systems including pipe support design. Some specialty areas include Mark I Torus Attached Piping, pipe wall thinning evaluations, water hammer load development & analysis and HELB evaluations. We maintain a wide selection of computer software qualified for use on safety-related piping systems used in nuclear power plant designs including AutoPipe, PipePlus, Stardyne, ANSYS, Images 3-D, and GTSTRUDL. AES staff also has experience using the following piping programs ADLPipe, PIPSYS, CAEPIPE, ME101, PISTAR, SUPERPIPE and NUPIPE.
AES brings experience and an understanding in mechanical systems engineering. Our experience includes but is not limited to thermal analysis, heat transfer analyses, hydraulic modeling, HVAC analysis, pump performance evaluations, HELB compartment analysis, flooding analyses, hydrodynamic load development and water hammer load development. Our computer software capabilities include RELAP, GOTHIC, PipeFlo and ABZ Design Net. Our experience covers both safety related and non-safety related systems and also includes non-nuclear industrial/commercial applications.

AES includes a diverse Electrical Engineering organization. Our Electrical Engineering staff includes a wide range of engineering experience capable of handling complex projects like Adjustable Speed Drive conversions and Electrical Distribution System Analysis using state of the art software (OTI-ETAP and SKM-DAPPER). Our experience includes Appendix R analysis, Security System Replacement (conformance to 10CFR73.55), Load Flow Analysis, Equipment Design, Procurement Support and Specification Development.
AES has extensive experience in nuclear instrumentation and control systems engineering and design. Our Electrical/I&C staff provides innovative solutions that meet or exceed our nuclear customer expectations and bring talent to facilitate state-of-the-art improvements in control systems equipment. Our expertise covers, but is not limited to, areas of analog to digital upgrades, Process Computer modifications and implementation, Software QA implementation, Security System upgrades, Control Logic analysis and Setpoint Methodology and Program Upgrades to name a few. Intimate familiarity of IEEE and ISA standards allows AES to stay on top of the ever-changing control system design criteria requirements.
