AES has been
providing
engineering, regulatory, and technical support
to nuclear plants for over eighteen years and bring the necessary
specialized engineering and technical skills to the resolution of
Generic Safety issues identified by the NRC. Examples include Generic
Letter 96-06 - Evaluation of containment fan cooling units for water
hammer loads and evaluation of
containment piping for thermal binding, BWR ECCS Suction Strainer
Replacement to resolve NRC Bulletin 96-03, HELB Analysis Including Jet
Impingement Calculations, and Head Loss Analysis and Evaluations of
Containment Sump Screens as part of the GSI-191 resolution. Gas
accumulation issues in response to Generic Letter 08-01.
AES has been
involved in performing reviews and validations of nuclear
plants’ current design and licensing basis. One such example was the
validation of a plant’s current licensing design basis that included an
update of the UFSAR, validation of each “statement of fact” within the
UFSAR, and a review of the plant’s safety and accident analyses. This
review also included the Tech Specs and the associated Technical Bases
Requirements. AES has also been involved in several Design Basis
Document (DBD)projects to write and/or update DBD's defining the plant
design basis.
Our
combined staff has the knowledge and experience of the license renewal
rule requirements. We have supported a wide range of tasks required for
the license renewal submittal for Civil/Structural applications. These
tasks included Civil/Structural scoping and screenings to determine
applicable components affected, aging management reviews, Program Basis
Documents to manage the aging affects on components and the technical
report for Non-Safety affect on Safety Related structural components.
Additionally AES has written portions of license submittals for
Civil/Structural and has supported NRC audits of the license renewal
submittal.
